Outdoor Education Department has provided the best learning environment for
students for more than 30 years. Our team of knowledgeable snowshoe guides
create a positive and educational snowshoeing experience, while providing
strong links to the BC Curriculum.
Snowshoe Program Options
Book
two snowshoe programs together for a full day option and save $10 per student!
Must be the same classes attending both programs.
Winter Discovery (2 hours,
grade 1+)
A
great introduction to winter ecology. Have you ever wondered how trees and
animals survive under a blanket of snow? Discover the amazing adaptations that
allow them to do so while learning the basics of winter safety. Curriculum

Nature Games (2 hours,
grades K-5 or anyone who is a kid at heart!)
Be
prepared for fun! Play nature-focused games on snowshoes while learning some of
the incredible characteristics of a winter ecosystem. Curriculum Links: Science
K-6 | Health & Career 4-9 | P.E. 4-12 |English Language Arts K-7
Navigate Nature (2 hours, grade
5+)
Learn
how to navigate successfully through nature. A great introduction to compass
use and taking/following bearings and other route-finding techniques. No
experience required – just a sense of adventure! Curriculum Links: Health &

Winter Workout (2 hours,
grade 5+)
Combine
fitness and fun as students enjoy a scenic snowshoe hike while getting a great
winter workout. Snowshoeing is an aerobic activity combining strength training,
muscle endurance, and cardiovascular conditioning. Let us be your winter coach!

Spirit of Sport (2 hours,
grade 5+)
Experience
the exhilaration of team games on snowshoes! Students will engage in friendly
competition against each other while building team spirit, burning energy, and
having tons of fun. Capture the Flag on snowshoes is a popular favourite.

Mountain Mystery &
History (2 hours, grade 5+)
Go
back in time and unlock the mysteries of the mountain. Through stories and
props, students will learn about the secret cabins in the forest and other
fascinating facts on this intriguing inquiry into the history of the people and

Amazing Snowshoe Race (2
hours, grade 7+)
This
interactive teambuilding program leads groups through a fun and fast–paced
scavenger hunt and fact-finding mission… on snowshoes! Test your group’s wit
and sense of team spirit, while solving a series of mental challenges and mind-bending
riddles. Curriculum Links: Science 7-11 | P.E. 6-12 | Health & Career 5-12

Winter Survival Challenge
(3 hours, grade 7+)
Learn
essential winter safety and survival skills in this hands-on program. Working
in teams, problem-solve your way through a survival scenario using only the
equipment provided in your survival pack. Your group may try their hands at
shelter-building, orienteering, melting snow, and other skill-testing
activities. Be prepared to spend plenty of time digging and playing in the

NEW!
Sustainability on SNOW (5 hours, grade 7+)
Through activities and observations, students will
identify the characteristics of systems found in the mountain environment
through the lens of unique creatures like snow fleas. Observations of
snow pack levels and exploration into ecological footprints and carrying
capacities and will help participants become equipped to apply their
knowledge to human systems.

Snowshoe Tots (90 minutes,
pre-school to K)
A
perfect introduction to the wonders of winter and the sport of snowshoeing for
preschoolers. Children will explore the winter environment through educational
games, a nature scavenger hunt, and time to frolic in the snow! Kid-sized
snowshoes are provided for a positive first experience. Curriculum Links:
